Corfe Castle & Studland.

Corfe Castle & Studland.

On Tuesday 12th July Nathan took Jill , Claire, and I to Corfe castle in the Purbeck hills, Dorset. The last time we visited it was when Adrian was living in Canada and came home for a visit.
It was bright and sunny when we arrived in the picturesque village of Corfe nestled beneath the ruins of the castle; which was built on the top of a hill; little cottages with stone tiled or thatched roofs, with low doorways and small windows .The Castle was destroyed by Oliver Cromwell after the English civil war. It is hard now to understand how man can destroy such a beautiful building, great masonry walls some over eight feet thick, cracked and leaning at strange angles or moved down the hill with large sections missing, it is still an imposing building even now, but must have looked impregnable to the villagers and travellers passing within its shadow.
Later in the day we travelled to Studland a large area of heath land and sand dunes, overlooking Pool harbour and Brownsea Island.

More pictures and information later.
