Photography

Photography

Photography is one of the subjects which hopefully will receive a lot of coverage on this site.
It is something which I have enjoyed for a long time, but never had the time or money to pursue to the level which was needed until now.
My images depict my new surroundings; Portland in Dorset is a magical place of rugged landscapes and seascapes some will show the industrial landscape, the stone extraction which has dominated the island for over two hundred years, other images will show the buildings, including castles, prisons & military establishments, some dating back to the reign of Henry VIII. The area is rich in wildlife both birds and plants.
I now use a Cannon EOS 350D digital camera with a Tamron 18-200mm zoom lens, shortly I hope to add a Sigma 170-500mm zoom for the wildlife images.
For image editing and manipulation I use Photoshop 7 software on a laptop and desktop PC.
I also use the software to produce artwork images (or images of the mind as I call them) but more of this at a later date.
I hope you enjoy the images.

These images are of an old crane on Portland ,once used for loading stone onto ships. These cranes were built by Galpin of Dorchester

Wind & Kite Surfing

Although I do not participate in these sports, I find them fascinating to watch and photograph. We have ample opportunity to do this as we are situated only a stones throw from Portland Harbour, thirty two acres of safe water ,a large proportion of it only two or three feet deep and protected from the worst of the weather by the forty foot high Chesil beach.
The Harbour is also the home of the Weymouth Sailing Academy, a dive school and other sailing clubs. This provides for some great photo opportunities, both summer and winter.
